In
May 2018, California Energy Commission (CEC) voted unanimously to adopt a
policy as part of the state’s Building Energy Efficiency Standard, that
stipulates that all new residences and major home renovations on buildings
under three stories, will be required to incorporate advanced efficiency
measures and rooftop solar starting on January 1, 2020.
According
to studies conducted by CEC, more than 100,000 new solar homes could be built
per year in 2020.
The
new standards also encourage demand-responsive technologies, like battery
storage to improve building’s thermal envelope and energy savings.
